EDMONTON - Brendan Dowd scored twice to give the Edmonton Oil Kings a 6-3 win over the Swift Current Broncos in Western Hockey League action Tuesday.
Drew Nichol got the scoring started with his first WHL goal, giving Edmonton (15-17-1-3) a 1-0 lead at the 9:11 mark of the first period.
Swift Current (17-14-0-1) responded 20 seconds later, Justin Dowling wristing it top corner.
Clayton Cumiskey restored Edmonton's lead with a short-handed goal, until Jordan Peddle evening things up again on a give-and-go with Taylor Vause.
In the second, Dowd's tap-in at the side of the net and a power-play goal by Jeff Lee put the Oil Kings up 4-2.
Travis Yonkman spelled Mark Guggenberger in Swift Current's net after Lee's goal, and Rhett Rachinski welcomed him to the game with a backhander top-shelf with 5:43 to go in the period.
Eric Doyle scored for the Broncos in the third, Dowd replying with his second of the night for Edmonton.
Lanigan turned aside 18 in net for Edmonton.
Guggenberger and Yonkman combined for 31 saves.
