Islanders sign Jesse Joensuu to one-year deal @NHLdotcom

The New York Islanders on Friday agreed to terms with forward Jesse Joensuu on a one-year deal.

Joensuu, a second-round pick (No. 60) by the Islanders in the 2006 NHL Draft, played parts of three seasons with the Isles before spending 2011-12 with HV71 Jonkoping of the Swedish Elite League. In 50 games, Joensuu scored 13 goals and added 16 assists.

The 6-foot-4, 207-pound Finnish forward, who turns 25 on Oct. 5, had eight goals and 13 points in 60 games during his time with the Islanders. He also had 42 goals and 111 points in 177 games for the Islanders' AHL affiliate, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers.

Newsday reported that it's a one-way deal with an out clause, meaning that he will return to Europe rather than the AHL if he does not make the Islanders' roster.

Joensuu also played for Finland in each of the last two World Championships, winning a gold medal in 2011.
