Islanders defenceman Hillen to miss six-to-eight weeks with broken jaw @NHLdotcom

New York Islanders defenceman Jack Hillen will miss six-to-eight weeks with a broken jaw and damaged teeth caused by a slapshot from Washington Capitals star Alex Ovechkin.

The Islanders said Wednesday that Hillen, 24, remains in hospital following surgery late Tuesday night. He was injured in the first period of New York's 7-2 home loss and is expected to be discharged Thursday.

Hillen was in front of goalie Dwayne Roloson during a power play when Ovechkin wound up for a drive from between the blue-line and faceoff circle. The puck appeared to hit Hillen on the chin and mouth, dropping him with 2:31 left in the period.

Blood pooled on the ice as Hillen was treated by medical staff, who later assisted him off.
