ROUYN-NORANDA, Que. - The Rouyn-Noranda Huskies' unbeaten playoff run ended with a resounding thud Friday.

Jean-Philip Chabot had a hat trick as the Gatineau Olympiques used a dominant power-play and a four-goal third period to beat the Huskies 6-2 Friday night in Game 1 of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League championship.

The loss was the first of the playoffs for Rouyn-Noranda, which breezed to four-game victories over Val-d'Or, Rimouski and Saint John. The Huskies are making their first Presidents Cup appearance since arriving in Rouyn-Noranda in 1996.

Gatineau rode a red-hot power play to victory Friday night, scoring four times on six man-advantage opportunities. Chabot was the ultimate opportunist, scoring a pair of power-play goals nine seconds apart in the third period.

Paul Byron added a man-advantage goal to open the third period while Gerrit Fauser added an empty netter for the Olympiques, who are seeing their seventh QMJHL title. Claude Giroux chipped in with a goal and three assists, while Ryan Mior stopped 25 shots to improve to 13-1 in the post-season.

Yannick Riendeau and Tyler Hawes replied with power-play goals for the Huskies, who led 2-1 after one period. Maxim Gougeon made 30 saves in defeat.
