RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -Carolina Hurricanes captain Rod Brind'Amour left in the opening moments of Thursday night's game against Pittsburgh with a left knee injury.
Brind'Amour, who entered with a team-leading 51 points, was sandwiched by the Penguins' Nathan Smith and Georges Laraque near the boards at the center line just 1 1/2 minutes into the game. He fell to the ice, skated to the bench and then grimaced as he was taken into the dressing room.
Team officials said Brind'Amour would not return, and the extent of the injury was not immediately known.
Brind'Amour has 19 goals and 32 assists for the Hurricanes, who entered the game tied with Atlanta and Washington atop the Southeast Division.
