Adam Hughesman scored a pair of third-period goals and Taylor Procyshen, Kruise Reddick and Jarrett Toll each had two assists in leading the Tri-City Americans to a 5-3 victory over the Portland Winter Hawks in Western Hockey League action Sunday night.
The U.S. Division-leading Americans (47-16-0-3, 97 points) have won nine straight and extended their lead over Spokane to 12 points in the race for the division banner.
Mitch Fadden, Jason Reese and Brendan Shinnimin also scored for the Americans, who played without starting goaltender Chet Pickard, who was injured Saturday when he was ran over in net by Spokane's Ryan Letts. Rookie Brett Martyniuk got the start, making 27 saves.
Portland (16-44-2-2, 36 points), which has lost three straight, had two goals from Luke Walker and one from Daniel Johnston. Kurtis Mucha finished with 38 saves.
