Houde-Caron scores winner as Shawinigan Cataractes upset Saint John 3-1 @NHLdotcom

Antoine Houde-Caron and the Shawinigan Cataractes had one of the biggest wins of their season Saturday night.

Houde-Caron scored the eventual winner as Shawinigan tamed the Saint John Sea Dogs 3-1 in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action.

The Cataractes snapped a five-game losing streak while earning an upset victory over the league-leading Sea Dogs.

Saint John lost in regulation for only the 10th time this season. The Sea Dogs still have a commanding lead over the QMJHL, nine points ahead of second place Drummondville Voltigeurs.

Shawinigan is in tenth place overall, and is trying to earn a playoff berth.

Elsewhere in the QMJHL it was Chicoutimi at Val-d'Or; Lewiston at Baie-Comeau; Moncton at Acadie-Bathurst; Rimouski at P.E.I.; Shawinigan at Saint John and Victoriaville at Drummondville.

At Saint John, N.B., Michael Bournival and Philippe Paradis also had markers for the Cataractes (29-25-7).

Nicholas Pard had the only goal for Saint John (47-10-1).


Sagueneens 2 Foreurs 0

At Val-d'Or, Que., Robin Gusse stopped 31 shots as Chicoutimi swept away the Foreurs.

Mathieu Girard and Antoine Roussel provided the offence for the Sagueneens (24-27-8).

Jacob Gervais-Chouinard made 12 saves for Val-d'Or (22-31-7).


Maineiacs 6 Drakkar 5 (SO)

At Baie-Comeau, Que., Francis Beauvillier and Jess Tanguy scored in the shootout as Lewiston edged the Drakkar.

Tanguy forced extra time for the Maineiacs (21-25-3) with back-to-back power-play goals in the third. Samuel Carrier also had a pair of singles and Michael Chaput added a marker.

Simon Olsson scored twice for Baie-Comeau (17-37-5), while Mike Villeneuve, Jean-Marc Leger and Kevin Bisaillon also found the back of the net.


Wildcats 4 Titan 2

At Bathurst, N.B., Ted Stephens scored twice as Moncton doubled the Titan.

Kirill Kabanov and Devon MacAusland added singles for the Wildcats (40-13-5).

Danny Chiasson and David Gilbert answered for Acadie-Bathurst (20-34-6).


Oceanic 6 Rocket 1

At Charlottetown, P.E.I., Felix Lefrancois had a pair of goals and added an assist as Rimouski snuffed out the Rocket.

Gleason Fournier opened scoring for the Oceanic (30-23-6), while Alex Belzile, Casey Babineau and Alexandre Mallet also tallied.

Benjamin Casavant was the lone scorer for P.E.I. (31-21-7).


Voltigeurs 5 Tigres 3

At Drummondville, Que., Alexandre Comtois and Marc-Antoine Desnoyers both scored twice as the Voltigeurs beat division rivals Victoriaville.

Christopher DiDomenico had the other goal for Drummondville (42-15-2).

Yanni Gourde had a short-handed marker for the Tigres (40-19-2), while Emmanuel Boudreau and Tomas Kubalik also tallied.
