Halmo and Maidens have goal, assist; Attack beat Otters to win 4th straight game

OWEN SOUND, Ont. - Mike Halmo and Jarrod Maidens each had a goal and an assist to lead the Owen Sound Attack to a 3-1 win over the Erie Otters in Ontario Hockey League action Wednesday.

Jay Gilbert added a goal for Owen Sound (12-10-2), which has won a season-high four consecutive games.

Owen Sound centre Gemel Smith chipped in with two assists to take over the team lead with 27 points.

Stephen Harper replied for Erie (3-17-0), who have dropped five straight and sit in the Western Conference basement.

Scott Stajcer turned aside 32 shots for the win, while Ramis Sadikov made 34 saves in defeat.

Owen Sound went 1-for-2 on the power play, while Erie went 0-for-4.

After a scoreless first period, Attack captain Halmo provided the home side with a 1-0 lead with his 11th goal of the season at 6:35 of the second period.

The Attack jumped out to a 2-0 advantage in the third period while on the power play when defenceman Gilbert fired a wrist shot past Sadikov from the point at 8:39.

Harper ruined Stajcer's shutout bid with 2:55 remaining, before Maidens capped the win for Owen Sound with an empty-net goal at 19:47.

Erie next pays a visit to Kitchener on Friday, while the Attack will seek five straight wins when they play host to the Canadian Hockey League's top-ranked London Knights on Saturday.
