Gomez scores twice for Devils in win against Flyers @NHLdotcom

Scott Gomez, now 34 years old, is trying to make a return to the New Jersey Devils on a tryout contract. He didn't hurt his cause by scoring a pair of power-play goals in a 3-1 victory against the Philadelphia Flyers at Prudential Center.

Gomez, a member of the Devils' Stanley Cup-winning teams in 2000 and '03, opened the scoring with a tip-in of Marek Zidlicky's shot at 19:31 of the opening period, then made it 2-0 when he wristed a rebound past Rob Zepp at 3:02 of the second.

Rookie Taylor Leier scored a shorthanded goal for the Flyers midway through the third period, but Zidlicky's empty-netter with 44 seconds left sealed the win.

Zepp kept the Flyers in the game by making 38 saves. Scott Clemmensen stopped 15 shots for New Jersey.
