Gomes scores three goals, adds two assists as Mississauga beats Plymouth 7-4 @NHL

PLYMOUTH, Mich. - Jared Gomes scored three goals and added two assists as the Mississauga-St. Michael's Majors downed the Plymouth Whalers 7-4 Saturday night in Ontario Hockey League action

Gomes, an overage forward from Brampton, Ont., netted two goals early in the first period - chasing Plymouth starting goaltender Matt Hackett just 4:41 into the game and added an empty-netter to seal the win.

Mississauga (26-21-1-2) also had two goals from Ryan Lopes, while Jesse Messier and Kale Kerbashian added singles.

Goaltender Chris Carrozzi made 43 saves for the victory.

Plymouth (24-22-5-0) had two goals from Ryan Hayes, while Tyler Seguin and Michal Jordan each had a goal and an assist.

Hackett, who stopped just one of the three shots he faced, and rookie Scott Wedgewood combined for 26 saves.
