Gill named Canada coach for Hlinka tournament

Hockey Canada on Tuesday announced Kingston Frontenacs coach Todd Gill will coach Canada's entry at the 2012 Memorial of Ivan Hlinka tournament.

The summer under-18 tournament will be held Aug. 13-18 in Piestany, Slovakia and Breclav, Czech Republic.

Canada has won the tournament four straight years.

In his first season as coach in Kingston, the Frontenacs finished with just 46 points, second-fewest in the Ontario Hockey League. However, he was part of the coaching staff that helped Canada win a bronze medal in April at the World Under-18 Championship.

Serving as assistant coaches will be Victoriaville coach Yanick Jean and Guelph coach Scott Walker.

Walker was part of the coaching staff that helped Canada win a bronze medal at the 2012 World Junior Championship.
