Flyers' Pronger nearing return to action

Chris Pronger has cleared another hurdle in his attempt to return to the Philadelphia Flyers.

The veteran defenseman, who hasn't played since surgery to repair a broken foot Dec. 17, was cleared by doctors Wednesday to "take his rehabilitation to the next level," according to a statement from Flyers GM Paul Holmgren to the Philadelphia Daily News.

Pronger has been skating lightly on his own since last week. Depending on the weather, Pronger could join the team in Atlanta in time for Friday's practice. If all goes well, he could return to the lineup when the Flyers return home from their current trip to host the Capitals at the Wells Fargo Center on Jan. 18.

The Flyers are 6-3-0 since Pronger's injury.
