The Philadelphia Flyers announced Saturday defenseman Hal Gill will participate as a tryout in training camp, which begins Sept. 12 at Wells Fargo Center.
Gill (6-foot-7, 244 pounds) played 32 games last season with the Nashville Predators, with no points and 12 penalty minutes. In 15 NHL seasons with the Boston Bruins, Toronto Maple Leafs, Pittsburgh Penguins, Montreal Canadiens and Predators, he has 184 points in 1,102 games.
He won the Stanley Cup in 2009 as a member of the Penguins.
If Gill does make the Flyers, he could provide some depth on the blueline. Last season saw a number of Philadelphia defensemen miss time with injuries, including Andrej Meszaros, Braydon Coburn, Andreas Lilja and Nicklas Grossmann.
