-- According to the Philadelphia Daily News, Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren
confirmed Saturday afternoon that 34-year-old goalie John Grahame
has signed a professional tryout contract with the team's American Hockey League affiliate in Adirondack.
Grahame, who will be in uniform on Saturday night when the Phantoms play Wilkes Barre-Scranton in Glens Falls, N.Y., spent five seasons in the NHL from 2001 through 2008 with the Boston Bruins
, Tampa Bay Lightning
and Carolina Hurricanes
. He most recently played 20 games in the Kontinental Hockey League for Avangard Omsk during the 2008-09 campaign but has been out of hockey since.
Holmgren has not divulged his plans for Grahame but the need for an experienced goalie came to light last week when starting Flyers goalie Ray Emery
underwent abdominal surgery. Emery will be sidelined six weeks.
The club is currently relying on veteran Brian Boucher
, who has started the last four games, and rookie Johan Backlund
, who has yet to make an appearance this season.
