Flames acquire defenceman Vandermeer from Flyers for 2009 third-round pick

CALGARY - The Calgary Flames made a minor move as the NHL's GM meetings wrapped up Wednesday, acquiring defenceman Jim Vandermeer from the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for a 2009 third-round draft pick.

Vandermeer has 18 points (3-15) and 71 penalty minutes in 54 games this season with Chicago and Philadelphia. He has 17 goals and 49 assists in 246 games with the Blackhawks and Flyers.

The 27-year-old native of Caroline, Alta., makes $1.225 million this season, and will become an unrestricted free agent July 1.
