SWIFT CURRENT, Sask. - Michael Ferland scored a hat trick and set up another to lift the Brandon Wheat Kings in 7-3 win over the Swift Current Broncos on Tuesday in the Western Hockey League.
Brandon scored three unanswered goals in the final 7:33 of the second period to break open a 2-2 game.
Ferland now has a team-leading 14 goals and a pair of three-goal performances on the season.
Mark Stone notched his 12th of the season during a third period power play and he now has a team leading 32 points on the year.
Brandon's Darian Dziurzynski collected his ninth of the season, while Brodie Melnychuk and Bruno Mraz both scored their first goals of the year.
Swift Current replied with goals from Graham Black, Reece Scarlett and Coda Gordon, who scored his WHL rookie leading 11th of the season on the power play.
Brandon netminder Corbin Boes stopped 25 shots to improve to 6-2-2, while Swift Current goaltender Jon Groenheyde falls to 4-5-2 after yielding seven goals on 34 shots.
The win improves Brandon's overall record to 10-5-1 and 7-3 on the road. Swift Current has dropped two in a row while falling to 6-9-2.
