Elliott scores winner midway through third as Blades edge Wheat Kings 3-2

SASKATOON - Stefan Elliott's goal at 9:21 of the third period was the difference as the Saskatoon Blades edged the visiting Brandon Wheat Kings 3-2 in Western Hockey League action on Wednesday night.

Ryan Funk gave the Blades (8-12-1) a 1-0 lead after the first period and Ondrej Fiala made it a two-goal advantage through 40 minutes. Nathan Green scored 8:30 into the third period to cut the deficit to 2-1, but Elliott replied 51 seconds later with what proved to be the winner.

Cale Jefferies brought the Wheat Kings to within a goal at 15:30.

Blades goalie Braden Holtby blocked 34 shots, while Joe Caligiuri made 29 saves in net for Brandon (13-8-0-1).
