Durand, Holtby propel Saskatoon to 5-2 triumph over Red Deer

SASKATOON - Chris Durand had a goal and two assists and Braden Holtby stopped 22 shots as the Saskatoon Blades downed the Red Deer Rebels 5-2 Friday night in the Western Hockey League.

Durand opened the scoring at 3:48 of the first period and assisted on power-play goals from Stefan Elliott and Ryan Funk as the Blades (3-4-1-0) won their second straight. Justin McCrae added the game winner late in the second period while Jyri Niemi had an empty-netter to seal the victory.

Mike Scarborough and Clayton Bauer replied for the Rebels (3-6-0-0), losers of four consecutive games.

Red Deer starting netminder Morgan Clark was pulled after allowing McCrae's goal. Clark and backup James Reimer combined to make 33 saves in defeat.
