Ducks' Perry in lineup against Lightning

by Lonnie Herman

TAMPA -- Anaheim Ducks forward Corey Perry, fighting the flu, will be in the lineup when the Ducks face the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday night.

Perry will skate on a line with Nick Bonino and Dustin Penner.

Anaheim, in the middle of a four-game road trip through the Eastern Time Zone, has been hit with the flu bug. Center Ryan Getzlaf will miss his third consecutive game.

Getzlaf, on the road to recovery, may be available against the Carolina Hurricanes on Friday night, coach Bruce Boudreau said Thursday morning. If not, then certainly next week when Anaheim concludes its road trip against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The Lightning, of course, will be without Stamkos, who is out indefinitely with a broken leg, and talking about that loss is wearing somewhat thin.

"He's hurt, he's out for a couple of months," Lightning coach Jon Cooper said. "His career isn't over. He's 23 years old. He'll be back."

In the meantime, Cooper is focusing on stronger defensive play to balance the loss.

"[Stamkos] is worth, what, three-fourths of a point a game?" Cooper said. "Maybe we compensate by keeping that three-fourth of a goal out of our net. We'll focus on defense and let the offense take care of itself. We're getting past it."

Boudreau, however, is sure it is not that simple.

"In the short period [the Lightning] will be fine because they all overachieve. When you lose a great player you're losing a big part of your team, but for short periods of time you can overcome it through emotion, through adrenaline, through young guys getting more of an opportunity," Boudreau said. "But if you didn't miss him then really, he's not as great as you think and we all know Steven Stamkos is in the top three players in the NHL. He's a talent to behold."
