MISSISSAUGA, Ont. - Matt Duchene snapped a 1-1 tie 12 minutes into the third period with his fifth goal of the playoffs as the Brampton Battalion edged the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors 2-1 to take a 2-0 series advantage in their Ontario Hockey League Eastern Conference semifinal series on Friday night.
Cody Hodgson assisted on Duchene's winner, giving him a league-leading 14 playoff points (three goals, 11 assists). Hodgson has recorded a point in each of Brampton's six playoff games so far.
Thomas McCollum, who blanked the Majors with 21 saves in Thursday's 3-0 Battalion victory, saw his second-round shutout streak end at 96 minutes and 28 seconds as Jesse Messier scored for Mississauga late in the second period on Friday. McCollum stopped 29 shots to earn the victory.
Matt Kang opened the scoring for Brampton and Matt Clark added two assists. The Battalion host game three of the series on Sunday afternoon.
Majors netminder JP Anderson stopped 33 shots.
