KENNEWICK, Wash. - Drew Owsley finished with 40 saves as the Tri-City Americans took a 3-2 lead in the Western Hockey League Western Conference finals with a 4-1 victory Friday over the Vancouver Giants.
Rookie Zach Yuen, with his first goal of the playoffs, opened the scoring for the Americans in the first period, while Tyler Schmidt and Brooks Macek added power-play goals in the second. Brendan Shinnimin scored with 1:51 left to play in regulation to seal the win.
Lance Bouma had Vancouver's lone goal, while Mark Segal had 27 saves in the loss. It's the first time in the playoffs the Giants have lost back-to-back games.
Game 6 of the best-of-seven series is Sunday in Vancouver.
