LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Drew Doughty and the Kings have reached a verbal agreement that will keep the all-star defenceman in Los Angeles.
Kings president and general manager Dean Lombardi says in a statement that the 21-year-old London, Ont., native has agreed to a multi-year contract.
A restricted free agent, Doughty missed all five of Los Angeles' pre-season games as negotiations dragged on.
A former Norris Trophy finalist, Doughty won a gold medal with Canada at the 2010 Winter Olympics and represented the Kings at the 2009 NHL YoungStars event in Montreal.
He was selected to the NHL's All-Rookie Team at the conclusion of the 2008-09 season and was named a second team all-star for the 2009-10 season.
