The New Jersey Devils signed defenseman Eric Gelinas to a two-year, $3.15 million contract Tuesday, avoiding arbitration.
"It's a nice little bridge deal," Gelinas told Northjersey.com. "I'm really happy to have agreed before arbitration also. I'm really happy with the deal."
Gelinas, 24, had six goals and 19 points in 61 games for the Devils last season. He had NHL career highs of seven goals and 29 points in his first NHL season in 2013-14. Eight of his 13 goals have come on the power play.
A second-round pick (No. 54) in the 2009 NHL Draft, Gelinas was scheduled to have a salary arbitration hearing July 21.
