SPOKANE, Wash. - The Spokane Chiefs second line played first-rate hockey on Saturday night at the Spokane Arena.
David Rutherford finished with a goal and two assists and Ondrej Roman and Judd Blackwater finished with a goal and an assist each as the Chiefs defeated the Lethbridge Hurricanes 5-2 to take a 2-0 lead in the Western Hockey League championship series.
Zach Boychuk scored two goals for the Hurricanes and goalie Juha Metsola made 26 saves in the loss.
Chiefs goalie Dustin Tokarski turned aside 22 shots for his 14th victory of the playoffs.
The 7,815 Arena fans on hand very realistically may have watched the Chiefs final home game of the season, as the series now shifts north to Alberta, where the next three games in the best-of-7 series - if a fifth is necessary - will be played at Lethbridge's Emmax Center on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.
