HAMILTON, Ont. - Curtis Sanford made 19 saves and stopped all but one in the shootout as the Hamilton Bulldogs overcame a late comeback by the Grand Rapids Griffins 4-3 in American Hockey League play.

Sanford stoned three Griffins in the shootout, allowing just one to Jeremy Williams.

At the other end, Brock Trotter, Ben Maxwell and Ryan Russell each scored on Grand Rapids goaltender Thomas McCollum to seal the win.

Hamilton (44-15-8) got goals from P.K. Subban, David Desharnais and Dany Masse in regulation.

Patrick Rissmiller and Mattias Ritola added goals for Grand Rapids (27-34-6), which forced extra time when Justin Abdelkader scored shorthanded with 35 seconds left in regulation.

The loss overshadowed a big effort by McCollum, who stopped 40 shots.
