Coyotes stifle Canucks @NHLdotcom

Newcomer Joe Vitale had a goal and an assist to help the Arizona Coyotes stay unbeaten in six preseason games by beating the Vancouver Canucks at Rogers Arena.

Vitale, signed as a free agent this summer, tied the game by scoring at 12:02 of the first period and set up Brandon McMillan's go-ahead goal at 10:55 of the second. Shane Doan's power-play goal at 18:45 gave Arizona a 3-1 lead after two periods.

Ex-Coyote Radim Vrbata scored a power-play goal with 9:00 remaining in regulation, but David Moss beat Ryan Miller with 1:41 to play to put the game away. The Coyotes are 4-0-2 with two preseason games remaining.

Arizona goaltender Mike Smith stopped 23 shots; Miller finished with 31 saves.

Canucks defenseman Frank Corrado sustained an upper-body injury in the second period and did not return.
