TORONTO (AP) -Columbus forward Jared Boll was given a one-game automatic suspension Friday by the NHL for instigating a fight within the final 5 minutes of the Blue Jackets-Colorado Avalanche game Thursday night.

Blue Jackets coach Ken Hitchcock was fined $10,000, also an automatic assessment stemming from the fight at 17:22 of the final period. Boll received an instigator penalty for starting the fight with Cody McLeod in Columbus' 4-2 victory.

The penalties are automatic by NHL rule 47.22, which states, "A player who is deemed to be the instigator of an altercation in the final five minutes of regulation time or at anytime in overtime, shall automatically be suspended for one game ... In addition, the player's coach shall be fined $10,000 a fine that will double for each subsequent incident."
