Chris Bruton scores overtime winner to lead Chiefs over Hitmen 2-1 @NHLdotcom

CALGARY - Chris Bruton scored 4:03 into overtime to lead the Spokane Chiefs to a 2-1 win over the Calgary Hitmen in a battle of the top two Western Hockey League teams on Friday night.

Justin Falk also scored for the Chiefs (20-3-1-2), while netminder Dustin Tokarski made 24 saves to improve his record to 11-1-1.

Carson McMillan scored the lone goal for the Hitmen (19-8-1-2), while goalie Dan Spence stopped 24 of the 26 shots he faced in a losing cause.

After a scoreless first period, the Chiefs opened the scoring with a fluke goal on an early second-period power play. After Spence stopped a harmless-looking shot by Falk, Hitmen defenceman Paul Postma attempted to ice the puck, but his clearing attempt bounced off of teammate Chase Shaber and into the net behind Spence.

The Hitmen tied the game in the third when McMillan wired a pass from Ryan White over the outstretched glove of Tokarski.

In overtime, Spence made a nice save on a close-in shot by Tyler Johnson, while Tokarski turned aside a tipped shot on net by Calgary forward Brandon Kozun. Bruton then picked up a rebound before he turned and fired a shot into the net over a fallen Spence for the game winner.
