Chicago Blackhawks forward Dan Carcillo out for the season with ACL injury @NHLdotcom

CHICAGO - Chicago Blackhawks forward Dan Carcillo will be out for the rest of the season with an injury to the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

The team said Friday that Carcillo is set to have reconstructive surgery on Tuesday and will be out at least six months.

Carcillo was helped off the ice after he launched Edmonton's Tom Gilbert into the boards during the second period of the Oilers' 4-3 victory Jan. 2. The 26-year-old Carcillo received a major boarding penalty and a game misconduct for the hit, and was later suspended for seven games.

He had two goals and nine assists to go along with 82 penalty minutes in 28 games this season.

Team physician Dr. Michael Terry anticipates a "full return" for Carcillo.

The Blackhawks also activated forward Marcus Kroger from injured reserve Friday and sent forward Ben Smith to Rockford of the American Hockey League.
