Chicago Blackhawks fire head coach Denis Savard after 1-2-1 start @NHLdotcom

CHICAGO - Denis Savard is out as head coach of the Chicago Blackhawks.

He was fired today after the NHL team posted a 1-2-1 mark to start the season. Joel Quenneville will take over on the bench, becoming the 37th head coach in franchise history.

He most recently served as coach of the Colorado Avalanche, posting a 44-31-7 record last season before being signed by Chicago as a pro scout last month.

Savard had a 65-67-15 mark as head coach of the Blackhawks.

He was named to the post on Nov. 29, 2006.
