Chet Pickard shines in shootout as Americans defeat Wheat Kings 5-4 @NHLdotcom

KENNEWICK, Wash. - Jason Reese and Shaun Vey each scored in the shootout to lead the Tri-City Americans to a 5-4 Western Hockey League win over the Brandon Wheat Kings on Wednesday night.

The Americans trailed 4-2 at the end of two periods, but goals by Kevin Kraus and Petr Stoklasa evened the game in the third, forcing overtime.

With neither team scoring in the extra session, the game went to a shootout, where Tri-City goalie Chet Pickard stopped shots by Andrew Clark and Matt Calvert to seal the victory. Pickard finished with 26 saves.

The Americans, who have won 19 straight regular-season games at home, also got goals from Kruise Reddick and Taylor Procyshen.

Brandon, which led 4-1 in the second period, got goals from Robert Brandis, Scott Glennie, Calvert and Tyler Dittmer. Rookie goalie Andrew Hayes finished with 36 saves.
