Catenacci scores in shootout, Gibson makes 43 saves as Rangers beat Battalion @NHLdotcom

BRAMPTON, Ont. - Michael Catenacci scored the lone shootout goal and John Gibson stopped 43 shots as the Kitchener Rangers edged the Brampton Battalion 2-1 in Ontario Hockey League action Thursday.

The win was the fourth straight for Kitchener (18-7-1) while Brampton (14-9-4) suffered its third consecutive loss. The Rangers have won nine of their last 10 games.

After a scoreless opening period, Josh Sterk got the Rangers on the board at 16:24 of the middle period, putting a backhander past Keegan Wilson.

Kitchener appeared to be heading towards a 1-0 win until Sam Carrick tied the game with 31 seconds left in the third period, deflecting a Dylan Blujus point shot past Gibson.

"It would have been nice to get the shutout but we won the game and that?s all that matters," Gibson said.

Wilson was also solid between the pipes for the Battalion, turning aside 24 of 25 shots in 65 minutes of action. Both teams went 0-for-2 on the power play.
