Carruth makes 18 saves as the Winterhawks shut out the Thunderbirds 2-0 @NHLdotcom

PORTLAND, Ore. - Ty Rattie's goal with nine seconds remaining in the second period stood up as the game winner as the Portland Winterhawks shut out the Seattle Thunderbirds 2-0 on Saturday in Western Hockey League action.

Brendan Leipsic scored the other goal for the Winterhawks (24-11-3).

Mac Carruth earned first star of the game as he stopped 18 shots for his first shutout of the season.

Calvin Pickard stopped 46 shots for the Thunderbirds (16-18-1), earning third star of the game.

Portland went 1 for 7 on the power play as Seattle failed to score on five opportunities with the man advantage.

The win was the Winterhawks fourth straight while the loss snaps the Thunderbirds three-game winning streak.
