Erling Haaland

It was a big day for a huge Carolina Hurricanes fan, who just happens to be one of the planet's best soccer players.

Norway striker Erling Haaland scored two goals in a 2-1 victory against Brazil at MetLife Stadium on Sunday in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Round of 16.

Haaland's impressive performance not only eliminates perennial power Brazil but it comes just weeks after his beloved Hurricanes won the 2026 Stanley Cup.

The Hurricanes pointed out that fact on social media.

It's true, Haaland attended a Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final on June 11, a 4-2 Hurricanes victory to give them a 3-2 series lead. Since, he's only scored seven goals to tie France's Kylian Mbappe and Argentina's Lionel Messi for the tournament lead.

For his part, Haaland seemed to have a pretty good time at Lenovo Center that night.

After the game he even shared on social media some photos of his night, posting "Morro med NHL." Morro med translates to "Fun with."

Now, is Haaland having a better time leading his country through round after round of the World Cup? Who can say for sure?

But if his World Cup ends the same way the 2026 NHL season ended for his favorite NHL team, there is no doubt he will be happy about that.
