Capitals sign G Johnson to 2-year extension @NHL

WASHINGTON (AP) -Brent Johnson signed a two-year contract extension on Friday with the Washington Capitals that will pay the backup goalie $1.625 million.

Playing behind starter Olie Kolzig, the 29-year-old Johnson is 4-5-3 with a 3.50 goals-against average this season for the Capitals (19-18-7).

The Capitals claimed Johnson off waivers from the Vancouver Canucks in October 2005, and he played in 26 games for Washington last season.

Over his NHL career, he's 90-70-13 with a 2.51 GAA and .903 save percentage for three clubs. His best season was 2001-02, when he went 34-20-4 for St. Louis.
