Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes
, today announced that the team has activated defenseman Joe Corvo
from injured reserve. Rutherford also announced that forward Tuomo Ruutu
has been placed on injured reserve.
Corvo, 32, has missed Carolina's last 28 games after being cut on his lower right leg by the skate of Washington’s Karl Alzner
in the teams' game in Raleigh on Nov. 30. Prior to the injury, the Oak Park, IL, native led all Carolina defensemen in scoring with 12 points, and led the team with four power-play goals, while averaging a then team-high 25:33 of ice time per game. Corvo has scored 25 goals and earned 46 assists (71 points) in 131 regular-season games with the Hurricanes since joining the team via trade from Ottawa on Feb. 11, 2008.
