Canadiens D Markov out 4 months with sliced tendon @NHLdotcom

MONTREAL (AP) -Canadiens All-Star defenseman Andrei Markov will be out for at least four months after slicing a tendon in his ankle.

The team said on Friday that Markov had surgery in a Toronto hospital. He was injured when Maple Leafs goaltender Carey Price caught the Russian with his skate during Montreal's 4-3 overtime victory on Thursday night.

Markov was coming off a career for the Canadiens with 64 points.

Montreal plays in Buffalo on Saturday.
