Calvert leads the way as Brandon Wheat Kings out-pace Swift Current 5-2

BRANDON, Man. - Matt Calvert scored two goals and set up another as the Brandon Wheat Kings beat the Swift Current Broncos 5-2 to open their best-of-seven Western Hockey Leage Eastern Conference quarter-final Friday night.

Scott Glennie had a goal and three assists for the Wheat Kings, who host Game 2 on Saturday. Brent Raedeke and Brayden Schenn, with an empty-netter, also scored for Brandon.

Taylor Vause notched both goals for the Broncos, who finished the regulat season third in the East Division and seventh in the conference.

Brandon netminder Jacob DeSerres made 28 saves, while Morgan Clark stopped 23 shots for Swift Current.
