BUFFALO, N.Y. (CP) - The Buffalo Sabres avoided salaray arbitration with defenceman Nathan Paetsch by signing him to a three-year deal on Tuesday.

The 24-year-old played in 63 games as a rookie with the Sabres last season, finishing with 24 points (2-22).

The native of LeRoy, Sask., was Buffalo's 7th-round choice (202nd overall) in the 2003 NHL draft.

Paetsch played junior hockey with Moose Jaw of the WHL, and won back-to-back silver medals for Canada at the 2002 and 2003 world junior championships.
