BRANDON, Man. - Brenden Walker scored the winner to lift the Brandon Wheat Kings to a 5-3 victory over the Saskatoon Blades in the Western Hockey League on Wednesday night.
Walker's goal, eight minutes into the third period, broke a 3-3 tie as the Wheat Kings improved to 45-18-4 and took over first place in the East Division, one point ahead of the Blades.
Shayne Wiebe had a goal and two assists, while Aaron Lewadniuk, Matt Calvert and Brayden Schenn, with an empty-netter, also scored for the Wheat Kings.
Gaelen Patterson, Josh Nicholls and Derek Hulak replied for the Blades, who fell to 43-16-7.
Brandon netminder Jacob DeSerres made 22 saves, while Steven Stanford stopped 19 shots for Saskatoon.
