Blackhawks' Teravainen debuts, Bickell close to return

by Brian Hedger /

CHICAGO -- The Chicago Blackhawks steadily are getting healthier as the regular season winds down.

They got forward Brandon Saad back from an upper-body injury Sunday against the Nashville Predators and forward Bryan Bickell is getting close to returning from an upper-body issue.

Bickell joined the Blackhawks for the morning skate Tuesday at United Center, prior to playing the Dallas Stars, and hopes to return to the lineup later this week. He'll make the upcoming three-game road trip and be reassessed at some point during it.

"I'm excited for that," Bickell said. "I wish I was playing now, but [the] reason I'm not playing is to get better. There are a long couple of months coming up [in the Stanley Cup Playoffs], and I need to be 100 percent to help out this team."

Chicago is missing defenseman Michal Rozsival (lower body), but he's supposed to start skating again soon. That would leave right wing Patrick Kane (lower body) as the lone Blackhawks player not on the ice in some fashion, but he's expected to be ready for the start of the postseason.

Aside from Chicago needing points in a tight race for playoff positioning, the NHL debut of highly touted 19-year old rookie forward Teuvo Teravainen is the main story for the Blackhawks. He will start at center, likely between Saad at left wing and Ben Smith on the right side.

Goaltender Corey Crawford will start for Chicago and defenseman Johnny Oduya is expected to play despite missing the skate.

Dallas did not hold a morning skate; coach Lindy Ruff will meet with reporters two hours before puck drop.
