Avs, Blues shake up rosters with late-night trade @NHL

DENVER (AP) - The Avalanche have acquired former No. 1 pick Erik Johnson and Jay McClement from the St. Louis Blues in exchange for Chris Stewart and Kevin Shattenkirk.

The Avs also receive a first-round pick in either 2011 or 2012 in the deal announced early Saturday, while surrendering a conditional second-round selection in 2011 or 2012.

Johnson was the top overall pick in 2006. The defenseman has five goals and 14 assists in 55 games this season.

Stewart led Colorado in goals last season, but has been hampered this season by a broken hand that sidelined him for 21 games. The forward has scored just twice since returning Jan. 14.

Shattenkirk, a rookie defenseman, took part in the skills competition at the All-Star game.
