The Colorado Avalanche
lost starting goalie Craig Anderson
after he injured his knee during warmups before Tuesday night's 4-3 overtime loss to Vancouver.
Backup goaltender Peter Budaj
played as scheduled, but Anderson wasn't on the bench for the start of the game and a team official said Anderson will fly back to Denver on Wednesday to be evaluated by doctors instead of accompanying the Avs for Thursday's game at Calgary.
Anderson, who gave up six goals on 30 shots in his previous outing, was injured during the final warmup drill -- a scramble that is reserved for the backup goalie, with teammates firing away from close range. He skated slowly off the ice before receiving help at the bench.
Anderson is 3-4-0 with a .907 save percentage and 3.15 goals-against average. He backstopped Colorado's surprise run to the playoffs last season, going 38-25-7 in his first season with the Avalanche.
