DENVER (AP) -Paul Stastny and T.J. Hensick scored in a 17-second span of the third period Wednesday night to lead the Colorado Avalanche to a 6-3 victory over the Los Angeles Kings.
Stastny got his second goal and fourth point of the game at the 11:40 mark of the third period and Hensick added his third point of the game at 11:57.
The quick goals came after Derek Armstrong and Brian Boyle had trimmed Colorado's lead to 4-3 halfway through the third period.
Andrew Brunette had a goal and three assists for the Avalanche (2-0).
Stastny scored 1:04 into the game and Peter Harrold of the Kings (2-2) tied it at 2:16 of the second period with a power-play goal.
Hensick, Ryan Smyth and Brunette scored to give the Avs a 4-1 lead.
The physical tone was set early with two fights in the first period.
