Antti Raanta denied all 22 shots he faced to win his debut with the New York Rangers and pick up his fourth career shutout in a 4-0 victory against the San Jose Sharks at Madison Square Garden.

* According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Raanta became the fourth goaltender in Rangers history to earn a shutout in his first start with the team. The others: Hal Winkler (Nov. 16, 1926 vs. MTL Maroons), John Roach (Nov. 15, 1928 at DET) and Marcel Paille (Nov. 2, 1957 vs. BOS).

* Raanta is 15-0-3 with four shutouts in 20 career home games. Raanta, who began his NHL career with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2013-14, was 14-0-3 (1.59 GAA, .942 SV%, 3 SO) in 19 games at United Center. He was traded to the Rangers on June 27.

* The Rangers are 11-4-1 in 16 all-time home games vs. SJS dating to Dec. 16, 1991. The Rangers are 10-4-1 in their past 15 games vs. SJS dating to Dec. 28, 2001.


* Rangers forward Rick Nash (0-1—1) needs one point to reach the 700-point milestone (378-321—699 in 869 GP).


The NHL was named Green Power Partner of the Year from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). ... Montreal Canadiens goaltender Carey Price, Dallas Stars center Tyler Seguin and St. Louis Blues right wing Vladimir Tarasenko were named the NHL's "Three Stars" for the week ending Oct. 18.
