Anaheim Ducks forward Bobby Ryan named NHL rookie of the month @NHL

NEW YORK - Anaheim Ducks right-winger Bobby Ryan was named NHL rookie of the month Tuesday.

He led all rookies in scoring with 16 points (11 goals, five assists) in 14 games last month. Ryan set a team record with goals in five consecutive games (Jan. 17-28) and his 11 goals for the month were the most by a rookie since Washington's Alex Ovechkin notched 11 in March 2006.

He also recorded the third-fastest hat trick by a rookie in NHL history in a 4-3 loss at Los Angeles on Jan. 8 when he scored three goals in two minutes 21 seconds.

The Ducks selected Ryan with the second overall pick of the 2005 NHL entry draft.

Florida Panthers centre Michael Frolik, Chicago Blackhawks right-winger Kris Versteeg, St. Louis Blues centre T.J. Oshie, Columbus right-winger Jakub Voracek, and Blue Jackets goaltender Steve Mason were also considered for the award.
