You couldn’t fairly evaluate this team until Phil Kessel
and Jonas Gustavsson
were back and ready to roll. Kessel’s been a whirling dervish with and without the puck while the Monster is unbeaten in regulation since returning from that groin injury.
But I can’t be happier for John Mitchell right now, who was mired in a horrific scoring slump to start the season and is now off the schneid and playing on the number one line. We all know down the line Kessel’s centre will be Nazem Kadri
or Tyler Bozak
but for now, Mitchell is willing to do the grunt work in the corners, cycle the puck down low and get his nose dirty for his more high-profile linemates in Kessel and Jason Blake to reap the rewards.RAPTORS
Maybe a walk on the riverwalk will exorcise the demons of Jekyll and Hyde that have infiltrated the Raptors. A 17 point win over the Hornets in New Orleans and the good vibrations that it generated were doused by the horrendous defensive display versus the Dallas Mavericks.
Dirk Nowitzki and company shot 62 percent overall, the fourth best opponent field goal percentage in the Raptors history and a blistering 74 percent in the second half. But the good news is they’re catching a break with no Tony Parker in the lineup and the Spurs have yet to rev it into high gear, being just 2-3 on the season. Although, they are unbeaten at home and have won four of the last five meetings with the Raps in San Antonio and seven of ten overall.
Andrea Bargnani has scored 20 or more points in four of six games this season so I think Il Mago could be the difference maker tonight.OTHER STUFF ON MY MIND:
- Why in the world can I not find any Fruittella anywhere? One of my favourite candies of all-time has become extinct. I went to three different subway stops the other day and was rebuffed continuously. Ricola candies, Jolly Ranchers and junk like Bounty chocolate bars but no strawberry Fruittella. I may have to order some online.
- Steve Guttenberg wants to make a sequel to Three Men and a Baby
and another Police Academy
. Of course, he does. Really what else does Steve Guttenberg have going for him at this point?
- 30 Rock
in its debut on German television scored a 0.0 rating. Clearly, it wasn’t the episode where Alec Baldwin is a Mexican soap opera actor.
- EW.com has a terrific list of actors that they’d pay to see anything. Two of my faves, the wonderfully versatile Phillip Seymour Hoffman and irascible Paul Giamatti, both making the grade.
- Gripping finale to Mad Men’s
season three. You could feel the venom spewing forth from Don to Betty. No matter what era, you can’t help but feel sorry for the kids in a divorce. The scene of Don’s son hugging him and pleading for him not to go was as poignant a scene as series television gets.
