Match Preview: Maple Leafs vs. Blue Jackets

by Chris Lund / Toronto Maple Leafs

James Reimer will make his final start of the 2014-15 season when the Leafs take on Columbus tonight. Jonathan Bernier slated to start game 82 on Sunday. Reimer hasn't seen much success against the Blue Jackets in limited opportunity. He is 0-2-0 in two games with a 4.37 goals-against average and .852 save percentage against Columbus.

Tim Erixon will return to Columbus tonight — he played 52 games for the Blue Jackets over three seasons.

"They work really, really hard, they stick to the system, they have talent. They're a hard-working team," said Erixon of his former club.

Sergei Bobrovsky is slated to get the start in goal for Columbus. He is 6-2-0 with a 2.01 goals-against average and .922 save percentage in his career against the Leafs.

While the Blue Jackets have been the hottest team in the League over the past couple of weeks, they'll have to be on top of their game if they are to avoid being swept in their season series with the Leafs.

“For me, it’s one day at a time, one game at a time, the same approach. We’re getting ready for a home game tonight against a good Toronto team," said Columbus head coach Todd Richards. "Going back and watching the clips, they’re doing a lot of good things and we need to be ready to go tonight.”

The Leafs beat the Ottawa Senators by a 4-3 score in the shootout on Sunday. They are 3-6--1 in their last 10.

Toronto is 8-26-6 on the road this season.

The Blue Jackets are finishing their season on a strong note, despite dropping a 4-3 game to the Rangers in overtime on Monday. They are 9-0-1 in their last 10 games.

Columbus is 17-20-2 on home ice this season.

The Leafs and Blue Jackets last met in January and Toronto took a home win by a 5-2 score. Phil Kessel had the game winning goal while Jonathan Bernier made 18 stops to earn the win over Sergei Bobrovsky.

Toronto has a 2-0-0 series edge over Columbus this season.
