The Toronto Maple Leafs announced Friday that forwards Alexei Ponikarovsky and Aaron Gavey have been recalled from the St. John's Maple Leafs of the American Hockey League (AHL).
Ponikarovsky, 22, has played 35 games for St. John's this season and has collected 22 points (11 goals, 11 assists). The native of Kiev, Ukraine played eight games with the Maple Leafs last season and scored two goals. He was previously recalled on November 28 but did not get into the lineup before returning to St. John?s December 1.
Gavey, 28, was signed by Toronto as a free agent July 24, 2002. The Sudbury, Ontario product has recorded 20 points (seven goals, 13 assists) in 36 games with the St. John's Maple Leafs this season. Gavey has played a total of 350 career NHL games with Calgary, Dallas and Minnesota, recording 90 points on 41 goals and 49 assists.
Both players will join the team in New Jersey and will be available for tonight?s game against the Devils.
