(Sept. 20, 2004) -- John Ferguson, general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, announced Monday that the club has named Craig Button as a professional scout.

Button was the general manager of the Calgary Flames for parts of three seasons from 2000-01 to 2002-03. He was responsible for the overall direction of the hockey club and its operations.
Before joining the Flames, Button served as the Dallas Stars' director of player personnel. He oversaw the Stars' top minor league team in Kalamazoo, Michigan, aiding in the evaluation and development of the club's prospects. He was also responsible for the management and development of the Stars' amateur and professional scouting program and evaluation of players at all levels. He spent 12 seasons with the Dallas Stars organization.
Button's family has a long history in hockey as his late father, Jack, was a former NHL general manager and his mother, Bridget, worked for Punch Imlach and the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Button was born in Rochester, New York and raised in Montreal. He graduated from Concordia University in Montreal in 1987 with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics with an emphasis in international finance.
